Deborah Senior – dressed in a homemade police officer’s costume and accompanied by her daughter Angel and sister-in-law Gracie – was ready to make a deal.
That’s when the Gilroy resident was chosen out of the studio audience to be a contestant on CBS’s game show, “Let’s Make A Deal,” which will air at 9 a.m. Thursday.
“I used to watch the show when the kids were young and I was at home,” said Senior, who jumped at the idea of attending the show after her sister-in-law got tickets. “I was totally surprised (to be selected as a contestant).”
Senior, who went down to the show’s studio in Los Angeles three months ago for filming, concocted a skit involving her daughter, dressed as a hippie, and her sister, dressed as a tree. Doing her homework, Senior went on the show’s website and brought two of the items requested of studio audience members – checkers and sunflower seeds – to use in trade.
Before entering the studio, she performed the skit for producers, who then interviewed the three of them. To her surprise, Senior was one of about “six to eight” contestants called up by host Wayne Brady.
“He’s pretty cool,” said Senior, who was sworn to secrecy and cannot tell exactly what happened on the show until it airs this week.
The long-running game show was produced and developed by original host Monty Hall in 1963.
“It was really nice,” Senior said. “There were a lot of innovative costumes…you see all the stuff on TV, but people do really go all out.”
Senior, a Gilroy resident since 1996, is also an author. Her first published self-help book, entitled “If you don’t like the feeling, why go there?,” is available in e-book format here. In the book of memoirs, targeted for young adults and teenagers, Senior described how she overcame obstacles in her life, including drugs and alcohol.
