An eye-popping double-double from Hanna Tabron and a defensive lockdown equaled a 39-27 victory for the Christopher High girls basketball team over host Monte Vista Christian in Monterey Bay League action Wednesday night in Watsonville.

Tabron had a hand in more than half of the Cougars’ offensive production with a game-high 23 points to accompany 20 rebounds.

“We played really good defense tonight,” CHS head coach Heather Stewart said. “Hanna had a heckuva game, pretty impressive.”

As a team the Cougars gobbled up the glass with 49 rebounds all the while holding the Mustangs to single-digit scoring in all four quarters, including a meager two points in the third quarter. CHS led by seven at the break and 11 entering the final period.

Merrett Brown nearly had a double-double of her own, posting seven points and nine rebounds.

The Cougars have played some of their best ball down the stretch and will attempt to close the regular season on a three-game winning streak as they host Watsonville on Friday night. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
