The Gilroy High boys golf team eclipsed a season-long goal, breaking into the top two at the fifth Tri-County Athletic League golf tournament of the season on Wednesday at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.

The Mustangs carded a season-low 219 to take second behind host Palma. GHS just edged out Alvarez, which carded 220.

The second-place showing is the best TCAL match finish in four years, head coach Jared Gamble said.

“The kids were pretty stoked,” he added.

Mitch Goldsmith posted a 2-over par 38, a career high for the junior.

Alex Saio recorded a 41, Chris Martinez had a 43, Wesley Theigles carded a 47 and Tommy Cox rounded out the Mustangs scorecard with a 50.
