Santa Clara County is accepting applications for up to $252,000 in grant funds available through the 2013 Historical Heritage Grant Program, according to County staff.
Local public agencies and nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply for grant funds for projects promote historic preservation and increase public awareness of significant cultural, historical and archaeological resources within Santa Clara County.
“Santa Clara County has a rich and vibrant history,” Board of Supervisors President Ken Yeager said. “The Historical Heritage grant program is an important resource which can support preservation and renovation of local historical sites for public enjoyment.”
The County Board of Supervisors established the Historical Heritage program in 1990, according to County staff. Since then, the board has approved grants for 64 projects across the County, totaling $6.4 million, all funded by the Park Charter Development Fund. Projects funded by the program that have become destinations include Casa Grande in South County, the Sea Scout building in Palo Alto and Old City Hall in Gilroy.
