Dear Editor,
I am writing to salute the Gilroy Fire Department for the outstanding job they did containing the vegetation fire on my property Monday afternoon. I arrived home to find the hillside ablaze and the GFD right behind me.
The first unit came from across town and they saved my shop and home from any damage. It was hot and windy, just the right mix for disaster but due to the quick response and professional action of the GFD no damage was done. It was amazing that as many trucks, firefighters, and equipment that were on scene, when they left you could hardly tell they were there. No damage to any landscaping or property. Hats off to the GFD for a tremendous job.
