Gyms, Compliments and Complaints
Caller No. 1: Hey Green Phone, I was seeing if you could find something out for me. I was wondering if there were any open gyms where you could play basketball in Gilroy. I like to play indoor and can’t seem to find a place listed that allows an open gym. If you can find that out, that’d be great.
Looks like you’re in luck. Starting next week, the city’s Parks and Recreation Division will open up the Ascencion Solorsano Middle School gymnasium every Tuesday night from 6 to 9. There will be a $2 fee at the door and only those high-school-age or older will be able to play.
The gym, located on Santa Teresa Boulevard across from Eagle Ridge, will also be open for volleyball enthusiasts at the same time every Thursday.
If you have any further questions, you can reach the always-helpful people at Parks and Recreation at 846-0460.
Caller 2: I’m just calling to say that was a great article that you guys did on Sean McNamara. Hopefully you guys will keep it going during the season and keep the town updated on his highlights each week. I personally know Sean and his family and I can tell you he’s not only a great football player, but a good guy, too. So once again, great article. Thanks.
From what we’ve seen, the Green Phone can verify both the caller’s claims about Sean. His San Jose State Spartans begin their season Sept. 4 at Stanford and The Dispatch will be there to cover it. Throughout the season, we’ll do our best to keep Gilroyans informed of his progress.
As a sidenote, the last part of our feature on McNamara was accidentally cut off in Saturday’s newspaper. Not much was left off, but if you would like to see the article in its entirity, log on to www.gilroydispatch.com. Once there, you can access Dispatch sports articles from as far back as two years ago.
Caller 3: I’d just like to know why you guys give the Giants more coverage than you do the Athletics, who have been just as successful in recent years.
If we do, it’s not by conscientous effort or the workings of a vast NL-wing conspiracy. The sports department provides every game story from each team and we do our best to evenly divide up the feature stories. We even try to make sure such things as the trivia question and the “Quote of the Day” are alternated between the two teams.
Thanks for keeping an eye on us, though. Feedback is always appreciated.
Caller 4: Hi, I’m calling from the verification department. My office has been trying to reach you regarding the 4-day, 3-night theme park and vacation package that you called in about earlier this year. I’ve got some good ne-
Whoa, wait a minute there cowboy. You’re calling to verify what?
Green Phone does not make calls. Green Phone takes calls.
And besides, it was born just a month ago. Is it possible – and please sit down for this one – that this telemarketer is intentionally lying to us?
The mere thought is hard to fathom.
