Cats

The Grinch is back in all his creepy, tiny heart glory with his dog, Max, who narrates this rollicking story with music. This is a colorful, exuberant, vibrant, gaudy and – most of all – fun musical, with a bouquet of upbeat, listenable songs. “The Grinch” successfully made it to Broadway in 2006 and, fortunately, touring companies have lit up theaters ever since.
An energetic cast includes a wonderfully disagreeable Grinch, loveable Max and The Whos, who, if they got any sweeter, would give you diabetes. They execute wild and crazy choreography and songs that bring a joyful ring to the season.
This is highly recommended, stress-lightening entertainment for kids and adults alike.
‘Cats’: A rare experience
“Cats” is the second longest running musical on Broadway, opening in October 1982 with 7,485 performances during an 18-year run (guess they should have it down pat by now).
Of course, previous to Broadway they were in London with the original production that premiered in May 1981 for a record-breaking 21-year run. Judi Dench was cast in the role of Grizabella, but snapped a tendon during rehearsals prior to the London opening. The role then went to Elaine Page, who made the haunting “Memory” a musical standard.
“Cats” is like an old loved tradition that just keeps rolling along. It has been translated into more than 20 languages. Based on T. S. Elliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats”, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and directed by the illustrious Trevor Nunn, “Cats” won seven 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
The T.S. Elliot estate released the book with the provision that there would be no script and only the original poems would be used as the text and in the songs. Lloyd Webber’s diverse genius brings a variety of music ranging from classical to pop, jazz, rock and electro-acoustic, as well as spiritual songs to the creation of this masterpiece.
This exceptionally talented national touring cast is the only production in North America sanctioned by Lloyd Webber. “Cats” celebrated its 30th anniversary on May 11, 2011, giving it the distinction of being the longest continuously touring Broadway musical in history.
It is a philosophical, spiritual experience of exceptional variety and is on hand with some of the most enthralling music presented in a musical. Come and be mesmerized for a moment in time with “Cats.”
