Gilroy Grocery Outlet, located at 333 East 10th Street and locally owned by Gilbert and Janice Angkiangco, recently kicked off its month-long, companywide “Independence From Hunger” campaign. The event was created to “bring together Gilroy Grocery Outlet and their customers to help feed people in Gilroy who are facing hunger and dealing with food insecurity,” according to a press release.
“Throughout July, as we celebrate our country’s independence, Gilroy Grocery Outlet will encourage their customers to donate food and cash to support the local Saint Joseph Family Center,” the press release states.
Saint Joseph’s Family Center is a leading South County social services agency that meets the basic needs of food, shelter and transportation for families and individuals who are in urgent need.
Grocery outlet shoppers can joint the “Independence From Hunger” cause via the following three ways:
– Look for specially-marked food items inside the Gilroy Grocery Outlet. These are items that Saint Joseph Family Center currently needs. Purchase those items and place them in the collection bin at the front of the store.
– Tell a Grocery Outlet cashier that you’d like to make a cash donation at the register. Donations will go directly to Saint Joseph Family Center.
– Pick up information at Gilroy Grocery Outlet about hunger, food insecurity and local/national resources for people in need. This will help shoppers stay “informed and willing to help.”
