Sophomore Megan Nebesnick scored a 37.05 to claim the all-around as the Gilroy High gymnastics team hosted a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League meet Monday night.
Nebesnick used a first on the balance beam (9.4), first on floor exercise (9.5), and seconds on the vault (9.15) and uneven bars (9.0) to earn the top spot.
“Megan was up against tough competition and delivered on every event,” GHS head coach Nicki Anagnoston said. “She maintained her concentration and never held back. I’ve seen tremendous growth in Megan as a competitor.”
With the league finals, which serve as the qualifying meet to the Central Coast Section championships, on the horizon, Anagnoston said she likes the way her team is taking form.
“Our whole team is working towards a strong finish in the postseason,” she said. “I think they are gaining confidence.”
As a team, the Mustangs finished third at the four-team meet Monday, though less than seven points separated them from first-place Los Altos. Lowell High School placed second.
Anagnoston doubles as the Christopher High head coach as well. CHS’s Caitie Shannon finished 10th in the all-around while Gilroy’s Alexa Ferguson took ninth.
The Mustangs host another league meet Wednesday, which is slated for a 5:15 p.m. start.
The league finals are May 13.
