Previously the vaccine had been available only for those at high
risk for illness or serious complications from the virus.

An estimated 800,000 Santa Clara County residents are in the high-risk category, and about three-quarters of them have been vaccinated so far. Public and private healthcare providers have received about 600,000 doses from late October to Dec. 31. Another 250,000 doses are expected to be shipped to local medical providers this month and early February.
