Dear Editor:

A big thank you goes out to Chris Orr and Lynne of our Community Services Department, Parks and Recreation Division for putting in a blue bucket swing at the Miller Park and one at the Christmas Hill Park for our handicapped population of Gilroy.

My daughter just turned 16 years old in May and attends Gateway School for the Handicapped on Hanna Street. Now that the weather is nice, the wonderful staff at Gateway has been taking the children to Christmas Hill Park for lunch as a once a week outing. Most of the children are not able to climb on any of the playground equipment but now can enjoy this bucket swing. All of the children will thoroughly enjoy being able to swing. I know my daughter loves it as you can see by the pictures.

Both Chris and Lynne listened to my situation, showed concern and were helpful to the children at Gateway and me.

It is unfortunate that Gateway School does not have the proper playground equipment for these children. This equipment that is needed at the school is not only for recreation, but also for therapy for these children.

If any organization or group have any ideas how I can raise the money for proper playground equipment for this school, please let me know.
