Haruko Iwanaga

Haruko Iwanaga passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 28, 2006 at the age of 91. She was born in Watsonville, CA, and was a fifty-eight year resident of San Martin. Predeceased by her loving husband Masaharu Iwanaga in 1957, she is survived by two daughters, Janice Yen and Linda Muramoto, sons-in-law John Yen and Richard Muramoto, and three grandchildren, Anne, Norman and Kyle. She is also survived by her brother George Otsuki and three sisters, Rita, Rosie and Gladys, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Haruko volunteered for several years at the Morgan Hill Second Harvest Brown Bag program and participated in many Senior Center activities in Morgan Hill and in the Japanese American community. She especially enjoyed traveling with her daughters and their families to many destinations including Hawaii, Florida, Alaska and the East Coast. In 1987 she went to Washington DC in a 120-member lobbying delegation to seek redress for the Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II. She loved gardening and produced an abundance of vegetables and beautiful flowers for friends and relatives.

Haruko will be very dearly missed by all who loved her. A memorial service will be held at her church, Westview Presbyterian Church, 118 West First St, Watsonville, CA on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 2:00 pm.
