GILROY – Randy Costa’s jumper with seven seconds left gave Headstart Nursery a 65-63 win over Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-Rio Nio and the first-half Men’s D League basketball title Tuesday at Solorsano Gymnasium.

Bob Lemmon exploded for 34 points as Headstart claimed the pennant with a 5-1 mark, earning Headstart a berth in the C League for the second half. Pro-Gavilan-Rio finished 0-6 and will play in the E League in the second half.

Alexis Rivas scored 30 points, Andres Espinosa 14 and Javier Sanchez 13 for the losers.

Beale Properties finished second at 4-2 with a 47-46 squeaker over Cordevalle. Nick Possley and Shawn Teacher each scored 16 points for Beale. Birt Bigelow scored the deciding two free throws with 12 seconds to play. David Warner worked inside for 12 points, Bobby Martin outside for 10 for Cordevalle (3-3).

Shanah Keyes scored 14 points Thursday as the Sparks earned the first-half Women’s League title with a 34-27 nod over Above the Rim.

Melanie Arner added nine points for the 6-1 Sparks. Katie Given scored 10 points for the 5-2 Rim.

Keyes struck for 18 points and Arner 14 as the Sparks finished the first half of the schedule with a 51-29 decision over R.J. Dyer Real Property Investments Wednesday. Missy Hice scored eight points for R. J. Dyer.

Stephanie Old Elk scored 16 points and sister Cristi Ledesma converted 15 as Above the Rim topped Williams Dental Lab 47-20. Gail Corzo scored six Williams points.

Gilroy Young Plants garnered the first-half Men’s E League crown with a 46-39 victory over the Titans in a playoff game Thursday.

The Plants and Titans shared first place with 4-2 records, forcing the extra game. Robert Silvia tossed in 17 points as the Plants prepped for play in the D League in the second half of the Gilroy Community Services Department program. Mike Vanni and Vance Lee each scored 10 Titans points.

Gaeta’s Taqueria finished the first half of the Men’s C League with a 5-1 mark after a 68-43 decision over Pizza N Stuff. Richard Klauer popped in 16 points, David Herrera 14 for the first-half champions. Miguel Gilliard struck for 14 points for the Pizzamen.

Jacob Garcia scored 20 points and Gilbert Barry netted 17 as 3-3 Triple Threat topped FFC 74-48. Joey Costa scored 12 FFC points.
