Gilroy – A judge granted a second continuation in the arraignment of a former softball coach and his wife Tuesday, so the Gilroy residents could continue efforts to hire lawyers.

Lino De La Cruz and his wife Sonya were arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale in June. Standing in a brown suit and tie, De La Cruz did not enter a plea, but told Superior Court Judge Susan R. Bernardini that he was in contact with a lawyer in San Jose.

Bernardini set Lino De La Cruz’s next court date for Aug. 29 at 1:30pm, and moved his wife, who has a public defender to the same time and date.

De La Cruz arrived more than half-an hour late for his hearing, and was reprimanded by the bailiff for speaking to his wife while court was in session.

Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team agents arrested the 39-year-old De La Cruz and his wife in June after receiving complaints that the couple was selling marijuana and methamphetamine out of a Comfort Inn hotel room in Gilroy.
