Since the May 3 arrest of six suspects involved in the Feb. 6 break-in and brutal assault of Gilroyan Gary Wise, 59, five of those suspects requested to have their court hearings prolonged to 1:30 p.m. July 12.
This joint request was granted this afternoon during a hearing at the South County Morgan Hill Courthouse at 301 Diana Ave.
According to police reports, Wise, 59, arrived at his home at about 9 p.m. Feb. 6 when three male suspects ambushed him. The suspects then tied him up and tortured him, pouring chemical substances over his body and face and beating him with pool cues until he lost consciousness.
The suspects include Juvenal Reyes, 62; Juan Fonseca, 21; Ernesto Gonzalez, 25; Norberto Serna, 41; and Danny Rivera, 22.
Beginning at 6:30 a.m. May 3, a string of sweeping search warrants and arrests took place at the residences of Gonzales and Fonseca at the 3800 block of Williams Road in San Jose, Rivera’s residence at the 2900 block of Park Lane in San Jose, the 900 block of Rucker Avenue in Gilroy for Reyes and the 100 block of Miramonte Avenue in Morgan Hill for Serna.
One juvenile, whose name was not released, was also arrested according to Sgt. Rick Sung with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday new charges were also brought forth against Gonzalez.
These stem from a separate burglary incident in Sunnyvale, according to Troy Benson, deputy district attorney for Santa Clara County who said the charges involve stolen property, including guns.
