After a year of remodeling, Sunset Garden Apartments, the 74-unit complex for seniors and people with disabilities, will reopen Tuesday.

“This is a very significant transformation,” said Alex Sanchez, Housing Authority of the County of Santa Clara.

Sunset Garden was looking pretty desecrated one year ago, when HACSC came in and partnered with public and private parties to renovate the public housing complex. Sanchez said.

The project included gutting the floors, installing plumbing and re-roofing all units, he said.

“It was like a major home remodel, but 75 times,” Sanchez said.

The renovation is one of 10 projects, totaling $84 million, that HACSC has taken on to revitalize public housing around the county.

HACSC is planning a ribbon cutting event for renovated apartments located on Wren Avenue near Third Street Monday at 11 a.m. Sanchez said that U.S. Rep. Mike Honda, County Supervisor Mike Wasserman and Mayor Al Pinheiro are attending.
