A recent Dispatch editorial acknowledged the forward momentum in Gilroy’s public schools and correctly noted, “bettering education is a total community effort.”
I’d like to inform your readers of two great needs on the Gilroy High School campus: books for the school library and a new lighting system for the GHS Theatre. While we are fortunate to have a brand new library facility for our students and staff, there is a dire need to expand the collection of books and other resource materials. The GHS Theatre is one of the most used facilities in our community, and its lighting system is outdated and in desperate need of replacement.
Local residents have an opportunity to support both of these worthy causes and enjoy an evening of wonderful music (without having to fill up the gas tank!) at a benefit show presented by Odyssey Theatre Company of Gilroy High School. On Saturday, Sept. 10 at 8pm in the Gilroy High School Theatre, GHS graduate Dennis Beasley and friends will present “Hey Old Friend,” a delightful cabaret production featuring classical and contemporary hits, intermingled with conversation about growing up in Gilroy and the warm embrace of returning home. This is live, local entertainment at its best and is not to be missed.
