One good thing is that Gartman has two more years on the council
to keep Pinheiro’s feet to the fire, and with help from the other
new council members he will be able to get the job done so that we
can get our great city of Gilroy back on the right track.
Hopefully the new city council will stop all the under-the-table deals
Dear Editor,
I cannot say congratulations to Mayor Al Pinheiro as I didn’t vote for him. But I can say congratulations to the other new members of the City Council. I voted for two of them, but wasted my vote for Tim Day for reasons I won’t go into. I was going to vote for Cat Tucker and I should have gone with my first instinct – sorry, Cat.
I was hoping for a clean sweep, and it almost happened had we only elected Craig Gartman as mayor. I guess we can’t have everything. One good thing is that Gartman has two more years on the council to keep Pinheiro’s feet to the fire, and with help from the other new council members he will be able to get the job done so that we can get our great city of Gilroy back on the right track.
Mr. and Mrs. Boggs’ recent letter said they wanted to give Mayor Pinheiro a chance to finish the job he started downtown. I call the job the mayor is doing downtown the “Cart before the horse dog and pony show.”
I have said all along – with a lot of other people – that they will not get the people downtown, especially at night, until they build a nice big safe place for people to park.
Some people are going to say this is a poison letter. I don’t think so. I dislike clicks, deliberations behind closed doors and under-the-table deals like we have been witnessing from City Hall the last few years. The little people of Gilroy have spoken and we hope those kinds of days and deals are gone forever.
One last thing to think about is Measure A. Mayor Pinheiro played a big role in getting that very bad measure passed. Ben Anderson’s recent column laid it out well.
Good people of gilroy, I am going to leave you with this to think about: Will we be better off in a year under this new local government? I certainly hope so.
Best wishes for a good, safe, holiday season.
Richard Janisch Sr., Gilroy
