A 28-year-old Hollister man died in an accident Sunday afternoon on Highway 101 north of East Dunne Avenue, and the California Highway Patrol suspects alcohol was a factor.
The fatality victim was identified as Joseph Young of Hollister, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office. A passenger in the same car, 28-year-old Felicia Regalado, also was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The accident was reported at 1:45 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 north of the Morgan Hill exit where it is believed a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Young collided with a freightliner, according to the CHP.
A CHP report notes that Young was traveling at an unknown speed and struck the 2012 Freightliner driven by Scott Graham, 39, of Monterey. The truck had been traveling at an estimated speed of 55 to 60 mph at the time, according to the CHP.
Young was ejected from the vehicle and later died. Regalado was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, and her condition is unclear.
The CHP suspects alcohol as a factor, and it is an active investigation.
