Take the tamale challenge
Put your cooking skills to the test at the Second Annual Tamale Making Contest and Fundraiser hosted by CARAS and El Charito Market from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 between Third and Sixth streets in downtown Gilroy. Labor Day bingo marathon

Fill the boot for MDA
Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit firefighters in Morgan Hill will host the “Fill the Boot” fundraising event from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12-13. The firefighters will be in the intersections of Monterey Street and Tennant Avenue and Monterey Street and Main Street in Morgan Hill collecting money from drivers and pedestrians to benefit over 1,900 local families served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. State parks exhibit
