Huge Bill for Unnecessary Helicopter Medical Ride; What on Earth is the Logic?

Dear Editor,

Citing the driver involved in hitting the child in an accident is one thing. Flying the uninjured child to San Jose trauma center is, I think, a bit out of hand.

I find that there was no need to transport him to San Jose hospital when two hours later, he was released, and back at school the next day. The mother of the child should be responsible for the Calstar helicopter bill, not the driver that hit him.

Sad Results of Teen Pregnancy All Around Us, Think Before Having Sex

Dear Editor,

Too young to fall in love – that’s a song from Motley Crue and it pertains to your “Teen Pregnancy” story. These young kids should listen to this song, and know what the lead singer is trying to tell you young kids. I graduated from Gilroy High School in 1990. Some of my female friends, got pregnant in our second and third year of high school. They all told me, they are going to finish school, work in a computer and/or electronics field, get married and live in a nice home.

Well, guess what? That never happened, their so-called boyfriends dumped them, and are nowhere to be found.

About two months ago, I was shopping at the Gilroy Costco, and I ran into a girl who was in my class. She has two older boys, ages 18 and 20, and she is now raising her two young grandkids. She’s working at a McDonald’s and cleaning houses on the side. Never married, boyfriend went to state prison for armed robbery, and God only knows what.

Now what kind of life is that? Becoming a GRANDMOTHER or a GRANDFATHER when you hit the age of 30.

Gilroy Chamber Has a Great College Scholarship Opportunity for a Student

Dear Editor,

First, a note of appreciation to the Gilroy Dispatch for your coverage of our local schools. Keeping informed and being involved are just a few of the key elements for a community to ensure student achievement.

The second note is to encourage students graduating high school in June 2007 to apply for the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Business and Education Scholarships. The Chamber has extended the application deadline to Friday, April 27, to provide additional time for students to apply. Any senior who lives in and/or is qualified to attend school within the Gilroy Unified School District is eligible to apply.

To secure an application, visit ww.gilroy.org, or stop by our office located at 7471 Monterey St. To prepare, students need a sealed copy of their high school transcript, three recommendation forms, a completed application form and an essay. For just a few hours of effort, the result could be very rewarding.
