I know the mayor would rather have the original design than what is proposed now. I think that the citizens of Gilroy deserve the beautiful decorative tower. If the same original design was proposed in Morgan Hill, their city leaders, as well as The Dispatch, would be praising its beauty and not its cost. And looking at their record, the city of MH would approve it even if it was over budget, just like they did for their swim center and their cultural center.
It is also wrong for The Dispatch to compare Morgan Hill’s upcoming police station with ours. They are buying an industrial building that has been empty for years so they got a great price on it. Gilroy had to demolish almost a whole city block and start from scratch on their project. So obviously there is going to be a great price difference. All I am saying is let us have something we can have community pride in just like they do up in MH.

EDITOR’S NOTE: There is a fundamental difference between a city community/cultural center like Morgan Hill has built and a police station. The former is for the use of the citizens.
