Dear Editor:

This letter is in response to the mother-in-law of the woman selling puppy mill puppies in her pet shop. Selling puppies from a pet store is absolutely ridiculous. Tell me how a large breed dog is being treated fairly as it waits in a fish tank to be sold to the next person who walks in the door? Just because it has had a vet visit, this is acceptable? Where are these dogs exercised at? Who is taking care of them during the 16 hours at night the shop is closed?

If the owner of Our Pet Shop is so upset why is she not speaking up for her self and defending her choice to sell those puppies?

It also seems kind of fishy to me that she is losing money, because it seems that she would probably stop selling them if this were true. I personally think it is great that the community is upset and trying to take some sort of action by calling the Animal Control Services. The next best step is to stop shopping there completely. While I understand that some breeders are not reputable, many are. This I know from experience because I received my dog from a breeder who has been nothing, but helpful and wonderful since I got my dog that is now 5 years old.

It only takes a little time and research to find someone who is responsible and honest when it comes to dog breeding. Justifying purchasing a puppy mill puppy because there are bad breeders in the world is just completely ludicrous.

If you are thinking about getting a dog I strongly suggest you go either to a breeder, an animal shelter, or rescue one. There are many great dog clubs who rescue animals and have information on reputable breeders. To find out more you can go to www.akc.org. If you are interested in where these puppies are coming from and how these puppy mills operate and treat the animals you can visit www.hsus.org.
