Dear Red Phone:
“I’m curious if there is an airport shuttle available to SJC and SFO for Morgan Hill residents? I had regularly used the Monterey Shuttle that stopped hourly at the Holiday Inn on Condit Road, and I’ve recently discovered that shuttle has discontinued its Morgan Hill stop. Any help would be much appreciated.”
RED PHONE: Dear Hitchhiker, It appears South County hasn’t been cut off completely from the rest of the world. There are still several options for transportion to the local airports.
SuperShuttle is one company that offers service from Gilroy and Morgan Hill to the airports. The fee for the shared ride service is $61 from Gilroy and $57 from Morgan Hill to the San Jose airport; and $87 from Gilroy and $71 from Morgan Hill to San Francisco. Round trip rates are available. To make reservations, call (800) 258-3826 or visit supershuttle.com.
South and East Bay Airport Shuttle also offers service from Gilroy ($59 for either airport) and Morgan Hill ($69 for either). Round trip discounts are available. Contact them at (408) 559-9477 or southandeastbayairportshuttle.com.
Monterey Airbus has service from SJC and SFO to Morgan Hill to Holiday Inn Express or to Ramada Limited. But they don’t pick up passengers from Morgan Hill. Cost from San Jose is $30 and cost from San Francisco is $40.
Numerous other services are listed on the San Jose airport website at flysanjose.com.
If you want to get up early, you can still take Caltrain up to the airports on weekdays. If your schedule is flexible, you’ll be able to save a few dollars by choosing this option.
There are only three trains that leave from Gilroy, San Martin and Morgan Hill – the No. 217, 221 and 227. They all depart between 6:07 and 7:20 a.m. There are also just three trains that return to South County – No. 156, 268, 274. They return between 5:11 and 7:49 p.m.
The Valley Transportation Authority offers a free shuttle from the Santa Clara Caltrain Station and the San Jose airport. And you can catch a shuttle from the Milbrae Transit Center to the San Francisco airport. A one-way Caltrain ticket to the San Jose Airport (three zones) is $7 and a one-way ticket to San Francisco (five zones) is $11.
You could take the Greyhound bus, which usually has three departures a day – morning, afternoon and evening – from Gilroy to San Jose for $14 during the week and $17 on weekends or to San Francisco for $26 or $29.
If you need a special pickup at a certain time, a final option would be taking a taxi, which could run as much as $200.
Hope this helps, good caller. Feel free to let us know if there are any others we missed.
