Dear editor:

My husband and I are writing to you in regards to the Mesa Ridge development the Planning Commission has turned back two times. We are residents at 695 Dawn Way, Gilroy and are concerned that Dividend Homes are planning to build “cookie-cut-out” production homes near our treasured southwest foothills home.

We would like the City Council to think long and hard about this development. We believe that the amount of homes they have planned is too many – 60 two-story homes on 11 acres. The area consists of semi-custom homes with a beautiful hillside view on large lots. The amount of homes being planned will disrupt this entire area from Eagle Ridge south to Gavilan College.

Please send the developer back to re-plan the development to reduce the number of homes to be built on that parcel at least by half and please do not accept cookie cut-out types of homes. We would like to see semi-custom homes built – at least like the homes you see adjacent to the 11-acre parcel that sit at Eagle Ridge and south of the area.

This area against the hill is very rare and should be privileged to responsible custodians to keep the city of Gilroy a prestigious place to live.

Yes, it is an expensive area to live and therefore is attractive to hard-working citizens to strive to live in and keep the area prestigious. I believe it is the prestigous that attracts other citizens to want to move to Gilroy in the first place, let’s keep it that way!

Please consider semi-custom homes in a responsible amount be built on the west hillside of Gilroy.
