Principal Garry Dudley has been granted a leave of absence by the Morgan Hill Unified School District, according to four Jackson Elementary parents and teachers, who asked not be identified.
The school district would not confirm nor deny the claim, but did say an announcement would be made at 6 p.m. tonight during a Morgan Hill School District school board meeting at 15600 Concord Circle.
Dudley’s secretary Sandy Moody said Tuesday afternoon that “it would be good for you to go to the school board meeting,” when asked if Dudley was in fact given a leave of absence.
His car was parked in the school parking lot and Moody said the principal was on campus that day.
The announcement of Dudley’s current absence comes on the heels of a Sept. 3 story in the Dispatch that reported 18 complaints were filed against Dudley in two years ranging from alleged sexual harassment to alleged verbal abuse of students. Eleven of those claims were found to have merit.
In addition, the school is struggling to pull itself out of its fifth year of Program Improvement after test scores were released Monday showing a 24-point drop in the annual Academic Performance Index. The API measures every school’s progress based on standardized test scores.
