Dear Editor,
I wholeheartedly agree with the Dispatch endorsement of Jaime Rosso to continue as a trustee on the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education. Jaime does indeed care deeply about education, and he resolutely works to better the program for all students. Jaime values diversity, and he is not afraid to say so.
He does not see cultural diversity and academic excellence as mutually exclusive. Yet he is not driven by one point of view, and is always open to new ideas and ways to improve the system.
In the two years in which I served on the board with Jaime, I also valued his support for teachers as the key to academic success for all students, and his consistent focus on technology and the need for students (and staff) to become technologically savvy. In the past four years, the district has made significant gains in giving staff, parents and students access to the Internet and email.
Jaime is always thoughtful, and asks the “what if” questions that lead to constructive discussions. Jaime has also been at the heart of many of the improvement efforts of the district. He was an active volunteer during the bond campaign, which will result in safe and equitable facilities for all students. He studied and supported reforms to the programs for students who are limited in English and the return to neighborhood schools.
He has actively participated in the development of the vision and Strategic Plan for future improvements. It is essential that the district maintain focus, and continue on the path of improvement. The Board provides the “umbrella”, and Jaime brings a matchless voice to the process. I urge you to join me in supporting him on Nov. 2.
