Jesus Atkinson, Sr. passed away at Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto, CA, peacefully, surrounded by his family. He is survived by two brothers from CA, three sisters from AZ, and six children, Teresa Atkinson Hall, Wanda Atkinson Rodriguez, Jesus Atkinson, Jr., Pastor Franco Alberto Atkinson, Sr., Rodrigo Ray Atkinson and Narciso Atkinson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
Well known for his involvement in South County, President of M.A.U.P. (Mexican American United for Progress) in the 1970’s, the orginization which spearheaded the developement of Village Avante and South County Transportation Assoc., which provided transportation for those in need. He also ran the Greyhound station in Morgan Hill for several years.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 24, 2010, from 4:00-9:00 P.M. with a service to held at 6:30 P.M. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 10:00 A.M., all at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey Street in Morgan Hill. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Memorial Park.
