GHS Boys Basketball Splits Games
The Gilroy boys’ basketball team got off to a great start in both its games against Monte Vista Christian and St. Francis.

The Mustangs defeated MVC but were unable to hold the lead against the Lancers.

Gilroy’s 62-30 win over MVC was led by Raul Quintanar with eight points. Ryan Costa and Devon Robeson had seven points apiece in a balanced attack, and Etay Haramaty with five points and five assists. Robeson also had six rebounds.

Against St. Francis, the Mustangs forged a 28-22 halftime lead. But the Lancers came on strong in the second half to defeat Gilroy (8-3) 51-47. Justin Wheat had 11 points and seven rebounds, Kendrick Azcueta had 10 points, and Stephen Galtman had eight points and 12 rebounds.

“They’ve got to learn you have to play two halves of basketball,” coach Jay Baksa said.

The freshman boys also split two games, beating Monte Vista Christian 56-18, and losing 58-42 to St. Francis. Against MVC, Michael Aldridge had 13 points, five rebounds and five steals, Greg Hamik had 10 points and four assists, Nico Sandoval had eight points and seven steals, Neal Dinsmore had seven points and six rebounds, and Jordan Holler had six points, three steals and three rebounds.

The girls soccer team hung with Los Gatos, trailing by just one goal at halftime before the Wildcats had a big second half in a 4-0 win.
