Warm weather is finally here! That’s good for the garden and for backyard picnics. But it’s bad for pets if they don’t have some way of getting out of the heat.

Please … make sure your pets can find a cool spot to rest during the day. Make sure they have lots of water to drink. And never take them for a car ride if you have to leave them inside the car while you run errands.

I came across a dog last week in a car at the Post Office. The windows were cracked open, but the heat in the car was nearly unbearable. I waited and talked to the owner when he came out to leave. He argued that the open windows made it safe for his dog.

But when I asked him to sit in the car for just a minute without rolling down the windows or starting the air conditioning, he felt the heat and got the point.

The inside of an auto heats up very quickly in the sun, sometimes reaching temperatures over 110 degrees. Don’t do it! Don’t leave your pet in the car unattended!
