Need to keep the ‘A’ team intact from the mayor to the city council
Dear Editor,
Gilroy will have a new city administrator and a new police chief next year. It is vital as the Gilroy Dispatch pointed out that there should be a smooth transition and consistency of leadership in City Hall by endorsing Mayor Pinheiro. Our current City Council and Mayor should be commended for the fine job they have done to date. Our city has achieved significant accomplishments over the past four years – downtown improvement, a new first class sport park, landscaping of the Santa Teresa corridor and crime reduction to name just a few. We need this “A” team (mayor and members) in the city council to establish policies to direct our new city administrator and police chief to continue the same direction.
Gilroy has interesting members of the city council. The council members are divergent thinkers during the planning and discussion phase. They become unified with a consensus building mayor, to implement an approved project. Gilroy has a varied demographic and citizens need to continue with this well-honed council. The city’s best interest must be foremost, not individual egos. It is good to have different ways to look at a problem but to know the
long-term vision is the goal.
Mr. Paul Correa is not running. It is fortunate to have two qualified and proven candidates running for the opening. The two candidates have extensive experience in both the private and public sectors of our community. They are: Mr. Tim Day, past president of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, current chair of the Planning Commission and endorsed by the Chamber of Commerce; and Mr. Bob Dillon, a past city council member, a current member of the Library Commission and endorsed by both the Dispatch and Chamber of Commerce.
Re-electing our mayor, and current members of the council and replacing Mr. Correa with Mr. Tim Day or Mr. Bob Dillon will assure Gilroy to be an even better place to live in the years to come.

‘Intelligent, plain spoken and a good steward of your tax dollars’
Dear Editor,
Bob Dillon has a proven track record of voting for the good of the community. He is intelligent, plain spoken, accessible to the citizens and a good steward of your tax dollars.
He is also a pleasant person and easy to talk to. He has been an excellent councilman and his election will provide a voice of reason on the city council.

‘Tone down the rhetoric’ and let Gartman win the mayor’s seat
Dear Editor,
Does Craig Gartman realize how much damage Mr. Zappa is doing to his campaign for mayor? In my walks around town and in stores wherever I meet friends, talk naturally turns to the elections and always to who we are are going to support. It seems that everyone I speak to says they would probably vote for Gartman if it were not for the ranting and raving of Mr. Zappa.
It seems as though there is a letter to the editor in every issue of the Dispatch in which he takes the mayor, city council and the entire city administration to task for not doing what he thinks in the correct thing to do. And he says that only Gartman is qualified to run the city.
I would like to see Craig Gartman win this election, but I don’t see any way for him to win unless he finds a way to have Mr. Zappa tone down his rhetoric.

A simple way to keep two good men in office serving our residents
Dear Editor,
Gilroy is fortunate to have two excellent men running for mayor, and voters should thank them by keeping both men serving Gilroy: Al Pinheiro as mayor and Craig Gartman to finish his four-year council term.
This is a win-win for Gilroy.
