Gilroy – Have you ever wanted to know the ins and outs of the police department? Ever been curious about what it’s like to be a police officer? Now is your chance to find out.
The Gilroy Police Department is now accepting applications for the Citizen’s Police Academy – a 14-week course beginning March 7 that teaches Gilroy residents and employees almost everything about the men and women in blue.
“It helps give people a better understanding as to why police handle situations a certain way,” said Community Services Officer Maribel Gutierrez.
The academy meets every Tuesday evening starting March 7 from 6 to 9pm and each department such as the Anti-Crime Team, the Neighborhood Resource Unit, and the K-9 division will provide demonstrations and presentations to the class breaking down what they do and why they do it.
Space is limited. Those interested must be at least 18-years-old and have no felony or misdemeanor arrests on their record. All applications should be received by the first week of January.
For more information call Gutierrez at 846-0523 or apply at the police department at 7370 Rosanna St.
