Dear Editor,
This is terrible! I think Anderson Lake is a wonderful place to
spend the summer months. With gas prices so high, and the lengthy
distance to other lakes, I think this will bring boating activities
to a grinding halt.
Ban on boats a huge goof on the part of the SC Valley Water District
Dear Editor,
This is terrible! I think Anderson Lake is a wonderful place to spend the summer months. With gas prices so high, and the lengthy distance to other lakes, I think this will bring boating activities to a grinding halt.
God forbid they end up closing the lakes because of a stupid mussel! This really puts a damper on my summer ideas.

Waiting for suggestions on what to do about Gilroy gang members
Dear Editor,
I wanted to respond to something Angel Rios said that “it is up to the entire community to keep the gang violence out.”
This isn’t the wild west anymore. The everyday citizen can’t just get up and run these unwanted gang members out of town. We need the police and city officials to make the move to get them to head out of town. Maybe there should be a city ordinance that if there is a active gang member in a residence you are renting out, you should be given one chance to move them out. If there’s no response, fine the landlord. Most of the landlords who rent to these violent members of our community don’t even live in Gilroy and don’t care what their tenants are doing to our community.
The landlord that rents to them and brings them into that neighborhood should be responsible for getting them out of that neighborhood. Mr. Rios is appointed to help relieve this fight in California by the governor. He is maybe making a difference in San Jose, but what is he doing for the town he resides in? What does he suggest as a fellow Gilroy resident we do to regain the safety of our community? Because just calling 911 to report it isn’t enough – and most people can’t even say who they are when they report it for the fear they will be next. So, please, please Mr. Rios tell your fellow Gilroy residents what do we do??

Thanks from family for community support during a difficult time
Dear Editor,
On behalf of Gary Lomanto’s mother, his two children Tina and Paul and his sister, Lydia, we would like to express our gratitude for the unbelieveable outpouring of support from the community. We would also like to thank Father Eugene O’Donnell, Johnson Funeral Home, Golden Oak Restaurant and all of our friends and neighbors that have sent flowers, cards and condolences. Your kind words and gestures have meant so much to each of us. Thank you all for assisting our family through this difficult time.

Company C Vietnam Vets deserve a hearty Gilroy welcome – ideas?
Dear Editor,
Forty years ago this Memorial Day Weekend, the 1st Battalion of the 22nd Infantry of the Fourth Division U.S. Army was trying to regroup. In the last few days of April 1968 one of costliest and bloodiest battles of the Tet Offensive had been fought at what was then known as Chu Moor Mountain. My husband Jack Chavez was the forward observer for Company C which was down to about 12 men. The rest were dead or wounded. Jack had been wounded and spent several days in a field hospital.
He says he remembers some of the guys came to see him there. He doesn’t remember much about Chu Moor and, in fact, had forgotten about most of the details until five years ago.
Company C of the 1st of the 22nd Infantry began its first reunion in Plano, Texas. Two former medics, Bud Roach and Charlie Shyab, had contacted as many of there fellow Company C members as they could. Nine men, two widows and their families met and remembered. We’ve met every second weekend in July for the last four years and our group has grown to more than 40 members.
This July 9th through the 12th, Company C and Friends will meet in Gilroy. About 25 veterans and their families will gather and remember at Forest Park Inn. Jack and I are asking a favor of our hometown. We would like you to help us honor these men and say, “Welcome Home!”
Welcome Home is the traditional greeting shared by Vietnam veterans and those who wish to give them the respect they deserve. At last year’s reunion in Washington D.C. our group was overwhelmed by the many heartfelt thanks and hardy handshakes. Can we do the same? Can we give these men the welcoming they so greatly deserved but most were deprived of getting? Help us make this reunion very special. Any and all suggestions and help for a wonderful reunion and celebration are welcomed. Please call or email us.
