Thieves, Criminals Taking Over the City – It’s Time For Residents, Police to Step Up

Dear Editor,

I was very sad to read about the thieves who have spoiled the display described in the Dec. 30 article “Gilroy Grinch Steals Christmas”.

I was further disappointed at 12:01am this New Years night when it seemed that the people within a one-mile radius of my neighborhood completely lost their minds by blowing every firework they could in a 15- to 30-minute period, blanketing my street with a cloud of grey smoke and the smell of powder and turning it by way of noise into a temporary war zone.

If citizens in this city cannot respect one another’s property, nor the laws regarding fireworks, what is the point of celebrating any holiday at all?

We either need a larger police force to stop these idiots from ruining assorted holidays for the rest of us, or we need to consider taking the law into our own hands through Neighborhood Watch and Volunteer Programs in each of our respective neighborhoods.

Those of us who choose to obey the law and respect our own property along with the property of others are at this moment completely outnumbered by those willed with selfishness, apathy, complacency and disrespect.

It’s time to take this city back. Perhaps some New Years resolutions are in order for those who sit back and allow this sort of ridiculous behavior to continue. It’s time to put this sort of petty public terror to a stop.

Worth Drawing Comparison to Two Powerful Leaders Who Have Left Our World

Dear Editor,

Contrast two deaths: one by natural death; one by death penalty.

There is controversy over the latter. Former president of the United States’ Gerald Ford, died a natural death. Former president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein died by hanging.

Former President Gerald Ford, a decent and honest man who lead with integrity and placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, is with Him in paradise today – for eternity.

Irregardless of one’s position on the death penalty, imposed upon Saddam for his brutal and evil crimes against humanity, one can be certain, because of his defiance and unrepentance, that Saddam is in Hades with the devil himself today, and, likewise for eternity.

There is a greater controversy to consider here: In Whom shall we place our faith and how, then, shall we live.
