Jonathan Large hurled a no-hitter to lift the Gilroy Little League boys Majors National Giants past the Oakridge Yankees 8-0 in the first round of the District 59 Tournament of Champions last Saturday.
The Giants kept up their impressive play with a lopsided 12-1 victory over the Oak Grove Padres in round two.
Round three is scheduled for Wednesday night.
— The Gliroy Little League girls Majors softball champions Earthbound Farm Heat opened up its playoff run in the District 59 Tournament of Champions with a monster 17-4 triumph over the Oak Grove Dusters on Monday night in San Jose.
“It was a good opening win for the girls,” Heat manager Ed Castro said. “They were having a lot of fun.”
Pati Soria had three hits and scored four runs to pace the Heat on offense. Alli Hathaway struck out eight batters en route to the complete game win.
The Heat advance to Wednesday’s semifinals.
