Annual toys for tots drive
Gilroy – The Gilroy Elks RV Group, The Garlic Roamers, are holding their annual toy drive. Residents are encouraged to contribute an unwrapped toy at the Elks Lodge no later than Dec. 7.

Festival taking poster entries
Gilroy – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc. is accepting entries for the 2007 Art Poster Contest. A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival.
In addition, the first place winner shall receive ten posters and one of each souvenir item produced with their artwork. The second place winner will receive $400 and third place $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 29th Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, July 27, 28 and 29, 2007.
The deadline for entries is 5pm, March 1, and winners will be notified by March 30, 2007. Entry forms and complete contest rules are now available online at www.gilroygarlicfestival.com or from the Gilroy Garlic Festival office, 7473 Monterey St.

Adopt an animal companion
Gilroy – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) have many homeless companion animals currently at the shelter and in foster homes who are looking for a family for the holidays.
Come to the petfairs noon to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday, at Petco-Morgan Hill (corner of Tennant and Monterey) and Petco-Gilroy (San Ysidro Avenue north of the Outlets).
Stop by to find a new furry friend, make a donation, find out how to become a foster parent or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter.

Enjoy family fun day
Gilroy – The annual Family Fun Day is 11am to 3pm, Saturday at the Elks Lodge to raise money for Rebekah’s Children’s Services. Families will receive one ready to stuff Noah’s Ark animal of their choice for $20. All proceeds support RCS Prevention and Education Programs serving 11 Gilroy Schools.
Find unique gifts at bazaar
Gilroy – The Gilroy United Methodist Women will hold Bazaar starting 8:30am, Saturday at the Methodist church. Admission is free but there will be sale of handmade crafts, jams, jellies and cakes including a drawing with a handmade quilt as a top prize. Lunch is served at 11:30am.
Don’t get your haircut
Gilroy – Well, at least wait.
Sunday, a cut-a-thon will be held to raise money for the family of Julio Gonzales who died on Oct. 17. The Hot Spot Salon located at 8025 Kern in Gilroy will host this event from 11am to 4pm.
Gavilan College Cosmetology students will offer a luxurious shampoo service before all haircuts and face painting for children. Raffle tickets are being sold for prizes donated by local businesses that include: tanning, dinners for two, salon services and gift baskets.
