Gilroy – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association is seeking contestants for the 29th Annual Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Pageant. Applications will be available beginning Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Garlic Festival office, 7473 Monterey Street.

Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Pageant is a scholarship pageant. Contestants are judged on personal interview, speech, talent and evening gown.

Applicants must be a resident of Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, Hollister, San Juan Bautista, or Aromas; a single female who has never been married and has no children; a high school graduate by June 2007; and between the ages of 18 to 24 by July 2007.

Deadline is 4:30pm, Friday, Feb. 16. The pageant is scheduled for 6pm Saturday, March 31,at the Gavilan College Theater.

Gilroy – Community blood drive will be held from 1:30 to 6:30pm Jan. 11 at the First Baptist Church Hall, 8455 Wren Ave. Also from 2 to 6pm, Jan. 22 at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave.

Experience some classic sounds

Gilroy – The City of Gilroy Community Services Department presents Bisceglie’s “Soul Terrain.”

Come experience the sounds of Motown, disco and soul in this ultimate all-singing, all-dancing wild revue, featuring 75 local children.

Performances will be held Jan. 12 through 28, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm; Sundays at 1 and 5pm. Performances will be held at the Gilroy High School Theater. All tickets are $12, reserved seating and reservations are recommended.

Free practice for the SAT

Gilroy – Princeton Review will provide free practice testing and a strategy session for high school students at the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St.

Students must sign up at the library by Jan. 20.

The test is from 10am to 2pm Feb. 3 and results and strategy session is 10am to 2pm Feb. 10.
