Gilroy – The city has received a $405,000 grant from Bay Area Air Quality Management District to help finance a major overhaul of downtown streets and sidewalks. The $3.78-million streetscape project got under way last week, with workers from PG&E blocking half the street to install new gas lines. The latest funding supplements $2.5-million grant from the regional Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

Dorn to retire after 28 years of service

Gilroy – The city’s administrative services director, Michael Dorn, has announced he will retire after 28 years of service in Gilroy. Dorn started out as planner in the community development department in 1977. Dorn served as director of planning, until he was promoted in 1995 to his current position, which also includes responsibility for managing the city’s treasury. His retirement is effective in September.

Gilroy – A drive will be held Feb. 9, from 1:30pm to 6:30pm at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave. and Saturday, Feb. 18, from 10am to 3pm at South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Drive.
