SJ man crashes into truck; arrested

Gilroy – Police arrested a San Jose man for drunk driving after he crashed into a tree trimming truck parked on Fisher Avenue Sunday night.

Guillermo L. Solorio, 26, sustained moderate injuries after driving his 1985 Honda Accord into the truck, which was partially parked in the roadway and had all its lights on and safety cones placed around it.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, Solorio failed to see either the lights or the cones due to his “extreme intoxication.”

Solorio was arrested at the scene and flown to Valley Medical Center in San Jose.

Charges will be filed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office.

Donations need for Grad Night 2006

Gilroy – Thanks to the hard work, cooperation and community support, Gilroy High School has managed to put on 17 successful Grad Night celebrations. But it takes money, about $40,000 to put on the all-night party and without financial support from the community and the cash from ticket sales, Grad Night would not be a reality.

The event takes place June 16. The Grad Night committee has spent the past several months staging a variety of fundraisers but they still need additional donations.

Those interested in donating may send a copy of their business card or other contact information, along with the merchandise, gift certificate, service and/or check to GHS Grad Night 2006, P.O. Box 545; Gilroy, 95021-0545. Makes checks out to GHS Grad Night 2006.

A family concert

Gilroy – Youth will highlight the family concert of the South Valley Symphony’s performance at 4pm Saturday February 11, 2006 at the Gavilan College Theater. Music director and conductor Henry Mollicone has announced that Miss Eileen Chen will be the featured soloist performing the first movement of the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 in C. Mr. Evan Jeng will be the featured violin soloist playing No. 3 for violin and orchestra by Camille Saint-Saens. The three movements are Allegro non troppo, Andantino quasi allegratto, and molto moderato e maestoso. Despite their age, both of these students have shown remarkable talent and are sure to put on a very pleasing performance according to Mollicone.

Once again the symphony has invited back the dancers of the South Valley Ballet (Juliet LaPointe-Smith, director and choreographer).
