Open Government Bill Advances in State Senate

Sacramento – State senators have overwhelmingly approved a bill to create more transparency in local government spending.

The legislation, proposed by State Assemblyman Simón Salinas (D – Salinas), would require cities, counties, and special districts to establish written policies regarding travel reimbursements and compensation for attending conferences and meetings.

It would also require local government officials to attend ethics training every two years.

The measure, AB1234, next heads to the assembly for approval.
