Gilroy – The November meeting of the Gilroy High School Parent Club will be held 7pm, Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the GHS library. The agenda includes a presentation by the English department, and a discussion of our fundraising activities.

Festive new features at Bonfante

Gilroy – Bonfante Gardens Holiday Lights features two new additions this year: a festive “Home for the Holidays” parade and special appearances by Snoopy, the lovable beagle.

Holiday Lights includes millions of dazzling lights around the park, an all-you-can-eat holiday feast, ice skating under the stars, holiday themed rides and visits with Santa.

The event continues Fridays through Sundays through Dec. 10, daily Dec. 15 to 23, with the parade starting at 8:30pm on weekends. The park is open nightly from 4 to 9pm. Tickets range from $22 to $40.

Odyssey Theatre features dark comedy

Gilroy – “Baby with the Bathwater” is a dark comedy that pokes fun at everything from modern child-rearing to psychotherapy. Every character is bizarre and when they interact with each other, hilarity ensues. Play is one weekend only, Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. All performances are at 8pm at the Gilroy High School Theatre.

Tickets are: $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and GHS staff. Mature show theme, not recommended for children younger than 14.

Local musicians invited to share talents

Gilroy – South Valley Music Makers will meet at 1pm, Dec., 9 at Gilroy’s Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1735 Hecker Pass Highway.

Music Makers welcomes musicians of all levels and ages at its get-togethers to share their favorite repertoire in sets up to 10 minutes. Music of all historical periods is welcome. Those who would prefer just to listen are also encouraged to attend.

Volunteers needed for Memorial Day

Gilroy – The Gilroy Memorial Day Committee looking for volunteers for the 2007 event. It is the 10th anniversary of the event. Team leaders and groups are needed to help the day of the event with parade and park control.

Also, if people or organizations want to be in the parade, fill out an application online. Businesses and organizations who wish to be sponsors of the event also are needed.

Festival accepting poster entries

Gilroy – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc. is accepting entries for the 2007 Art Poster Contest. A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival. In addition, the first place winner shall receive ten posters and one of each souvenir item produced with their artwork. The second place winner will receive $400 and third place $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 29th Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, July 27, 28 and 29, 2007.

The deadline for entries is 5pm, March 1, and winners will be notified by March 30, 2007. Entry forms and complete contest rules are now available online at www.gilroygarlicfestival.com or from the Gilroy Garlic Festival office, 7473 Monterey Street.
