Fundraiser for Gavilan College program
Gilroy – The Gavilan College Child Development Center Parent Club is hosting their first fundraiser this weekend at Glen View School.
To raise money for the center, parent club members are holding a garage sale Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 1pm and inviting individuals to donate items or money at the cause.
The Child Development Center has been operating in a deficit for the past couple of years. All money raised from the sale goes towards funding the CDC.
“This is our first fundraiser. If we can make a couple of hundred dollars that would be great,” said parent club member Kim Sullivan.
The money raised will help fund the Infant/Toddler program Gavilan College officials have debated whether to close in the fall.
American Red Cross blood drive
Gilroy – The community of Gilroy will host their regular American Red Cross blood drive from 1:30 to 6:30pm Thursday, Aug. 11, at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave.
Voluntary blood donation is as important as ever. Donating blood is safe, convenient and easy. You can donate blood on the way to your last summer getaway or on your way home from back-to-school shopping.
“All summer long we are holding weekly raffles to encourage current and new blood donors to step up to the plate by holding daily raffles,” says Sara O’Brien, Red Cross spokesperson. “Donors are enjoying everything from drawings for Hawaiian vacations to special event tickets to $100 gas cards as part of our “Fuel for Life” campaign.”
To make a life-saving appointment to give blood, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit www.BeADonor.com. In order to give blood, you must be 17 years or older, weigh no less than 110 pounds and enjoy general good health. Walk-ins are also welcome.
And bring a driver’s license. American Red Cross volunteer blood donors are required to provide identification before donating blood. The preferred identifiers include a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, or a Red Cross blood donor card.
