New bus routes coming Monday
The biggest overhaul of the VTA in 20 years will go into effect Monday. Almost every one of the transit system’s bus routes are being changed with new schedules for more than 3,000 stops. The 15 most used lines will now have busses arriving every 15 minutes or less. Express routes will be added to downtown San Jose from Gilroy and the Fremont BART station.

Single Stream Recycling Program starts Monday
With single stream recycling, residents can mix recyclables, such as cans, bottles, plastic, and paper/cardboard, into one container. A complete list of what can and cannot be put in the recycle cart is available online at www.southvalleydisposal.com. The new container has more capacity than both of the old recycling bins and has wheels which will be more convenient when bringing the cart curbside for pick up. Old recycling bins can be reused as storage or other creative uses, or they will be collected the week of Jan. 21.
Single stream recycling will allow a greater amount of recyclable materials to be collected. This program will bring the city in line with current recycling trends since the processing facilities are set up to receive mixed recyclables and have the technology to separate the materials.
