Gilroy’s Avilla, Hollister’s Rianda place high in Begonia Fest,
High-Tech Invitational
SANTA CRUZ – Gilroy gymnast Lise Avilla and Hollister gymnast Emily Rianda began their competition season for Level 4 with strong finishes at the Begonia Fest meet in Santa Cruz on Sunday, Sept. 7, and at the High-Tech Invitational meet in Rancho Cordova on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The girls train at and compete for USA Sport Connection in Hollister. Eight year olds Rianda and Avilla are both competing in their first season of Level 4 Jr. Olympic competition.
At Sunday’s meet, Rianda won first place on the beam with a score of 7.8, second place on bars with a score of 7.5, and second place on the floor with a score of 7.2. Rianda took second place in the All-Around with a score of 30.675.
Avilla won second place on the vault with a score of 9.1, placing fifth in the All-Around with a score of 28.85.
Another high scorer for USA Sport Connection was Jacquelynn Fisher of Hollister who won a first place on the vault with a score of 9.175.
Both Rianda and Avilla also brought home high All-Around awards from their first competitive meet on Sept. 7 in Santa Cruz. Rianda placed fourth All-Around with a score of 30.2 and Avilla placed fifth All-Around with a score of 29.30.
USA Sport Connection gymnasts will also be participating in Sunnyvale’s upcoming ‘Flip into Fall’ meet on Oct. 4 and Marin’s ‘Tumble in the Jungle’ meet on Oct. 10-11.
