Public invited to council candidate briefing

City Administrator Jimmy Forbis will host a Gilroy City Council candidate briefing on Sept. 8 from 6-8pm.

The briefing will provide information to candidates about the city’s programs and services, finances, governance and strategic outlook. It will include presentations from the various city departments and divisions, followed by the opportunity for candidates to ask questions of city staff. 

The public is invited to attend in-person at the Gilroy Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna St. The briefing will also be available for viewing through live-stream on the City Council Meetings page of the city’s website.

Spanish language interpretation services will be available.

Friends of the Gilroy Library holding meeting, book sale

The Friends of the Gilroy Library has two events scheduled in September.

It will host its Annual General Membership meeting on Sept. 7 at 7pm in Room B, second floor of the library, 350 West Sixth St.

This is a chance for the public to meet the board and Community Librarian Cassandra Wong.

The Friends of the Gilroy Library also holds a book sale every second Saturday of the month from 10am-1pm at the library, 350 West Sixth St.

The next sale is Sept. 10.

The Isabel Jewell Bookstore has new hours: Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 1-3pm, Wednesday from 1-4pm, Thursday from 10am to 3pm and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10am to 1pm.

The store is in need of donations of hardback novels. 

Regular prices are 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardbacks. Children’s books are 25 cents and 50 cents.
