Councilmembers hosting town hall

Gilroy City Councilmembers Dion Bracco and Carol Marques are holding a town hall meeting on March 24 at 6pm at Old City Hall Restaurant, 7400 Monterey St.

The guest speaker will be Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, who is running for re-election.

No registration is required.

Wedding Expo returns March 27

Visit Gilroy will host the Gilroy Dream Wedding Expo on March 27 from noon-4pm at the Gilroy Lodge on the Hill, 2765 Hecker Pass Highway.

Brides and their guests can check out the 35-plus vendors showcased at the event, including local wineries, florists and venues.

The bride and her party will be greeted at the Lodge on the Hill by a limo and a mobile beauty unit from Glamology. Inside, they will find samples of appetizers from local caterers and cake bites from local bakeries.

Couples can choose from a variety of photographers and photo booth vendors.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to win a one-night stay and dinner for two at CordeValle Resort.

The first two tickets for the bride and one guest are free; additional tickets are $9 each.

Fellowship program open for immigrants

The County of Santa Clara is offering the New Americans Fellowship program to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, U and T nonimmigrant visa holders, VAWA recipients, Temporary Protected Status holders, asylees and refugees who live, work or go to school in Santa Clara County. 

The New Americans Fellowship (NAF), a 10-week leadership program that runs from June through August, offers a stipend of up to $10,000. 

The application is available at sccoir.org/naf and is due on March 31.

Fellows receive mentoring and career pipeline support from county leaders and from various county departments.

Fellows’ projects for the 10 weeks typically require full-time commitment. They will work on a research and/or community engagement project focused on immigrant integration.

Sale benefits dog rescue organization

South County Tail Waggers is holding its inaugural Tag Sale fundraiser on April 2 from 8am to 4pm at 7550 Westwood Drive in Gilroy.

The sale will feature various items for sale.

Kellar honored by Baylor University

Abigail Kellar of Gilroy was among more than 5,000 students named to Baylor University’s Dean’s Academic Honor List for the Fall 2021 semester.

Students honored on the Dean’s List earned a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.70 with no grade lower than a “C” while enrolled in at least 12 graded semester hours.

Kellar is a student in the college’s Hankamer School of Business.

Baylor is a Christian university located in Waco, Texas.

Locals named to Dean’s List at Biola University

Three Gilroyans were among nearly 1,800 students named to the Biola University Dean’s List in Fall 2021. 

The local students are:

• Mayah Gallego, majoring in Comm Sciences Disorders

• Megan Joncich, majoring in Liberal Studies Elementary Ed

• Abigail Lynch, majoring in Nursing

Biola students are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2.

Biola University is a Christian university in Southern California.
