SAN ANTONIO – Elizabeth Rodriguez, 15, arrived at the National PAL Championships in San Antonio, TX last week, only to discover there were no fighters to challenge her for her title in the 101-pound division. Being the competitor that she is, the sophomore at Christopher High decided to move up in weight and participate in the 106-pound class.

“Elizabeth had nothing to lose and everything to gain moving up a weight class,” wrote her coach and father, Jerry Rodriguez via e-mail.

Rodriguez ended up taking the silver medal after falling to Rianna Rios of Dallas, TX.

She will now focus her attention and training on the Silver Gloves which takes place Nov. 21-22.
