SAN JOSE – Senior thrower Brian Lopez will represent Gilroy High School at Friday’s Central Coast Section Track & Field Finals in both the discus and shot put.
Lopez – who won the Tri-County Athletic League title for the discus and placed second in the shot put – placed first in his discus preliminary at Saturday’s CCS Semifinals with a distance of 155 feet-six inches. Of the four groupings combined, Lopez’s throw was fifth among all CCS competitors.
In addition, Lopez placed second in his shot put preliminary on Saturday with a distance of 56 feet-four and 1/4 inches. Overall for the semis, Lopez second behind only Los Gatos senior Nik Kay (56-04.35).
The CCS Championships will begin the field events at 4 p.m. and the track events at 6 p.m.
