The awards just keep on coming for Erin Magill.

senior student-athlete would attend University of
California-Berkeley on a partial field hockey scholarship, Magill
was named to the Central Coast Section first-team.

Less than two weeks after the announcement that the Gilroy High senior student-athlete would attend University of California-Berkeley on a partial field hockey scholarship, Magill was named to the Central Coast Section first-team.
“I felt Erin was really deserving,” GHS coach Erin Gemar said. “She has great stickhandling skills and is able to dribble through traffic beautifully.
“Of course, I wish we could have gone further (in the playoffs) and had more girls selected. It’s a wonderful honor for Erin. It would be fun to watch the CCS first team play together because they really are the cream of the crop.”
Sophomore Laura Spellman received second-team CCS honors and senior Dana Schoeneman was selected honorable mention.
Soula Ellenikiotis of St. Francis was CCS Player of the Year. Archbishop Mitty placed three girls on the first team.
The Mustangs predictably dominated the Mission Trail Athletic League awards. Magill was selected league Most Valuable Player, Spellman was voted Best Sophomore, Elise Ogle was named Best Freshman and junior Kaitlin Pieroti earned the Sportsmanship Award. Magill, Spellman, Kelly Perkins and Schoeneman was all first-team selections. Jaimie Silva, Lindsey Valadez, Russhelle Preeshl and Amanda Spellman was second-team selections.
GHS held its annual banquet Sunday during which the players voted for all awards except the Coach’s Award, which was won by Silva.
Once again, Magill was Most Valuable Player. Lexi MacPhail was Most Improved, Amanda Spellman was Most Inspirational, Schoeneman was Most Valuable Defensive, Laura Spellman was Most Valuable Midfielder, and Perkins was Most Valuable Offensive. Four-year varsity awards were given to Stephanie Glenn and Magill.
The Nina Edwards Alumni Scholarship Award of $500 was split between Magill and Perkins. Nine girls between varsity and junior varsity boasted grade point averages of 4.0 and above, and nine more were at 3.5 or above. Those at 4.0 or above were varsity players Magill, Valadez, Perkins, Laura Spellman, Ogle and Diana Carter, as well as JVs Geralyn Moon, Alex Cabreros and Danielle Zappa.
