Road rage incident does not appear gang-related, according to
Gilroy police
Gilroy – Police arrested Hollister resident Aldo R. Rosel, 20, Friday night, two days after he drove up alongside a motorist and threatened him with a gun, police said.
The man, 38, told police Rosel was driving his Volkswagen Jetta erratically in the area of 10th and Chestnut streets about 2pm last Wednesday. When he pulled over to let him pass, Rosel pulled up next to the man’s, pointed a semi-automatic pistol at him, and asked, “Do you want to die?” police said.
Rosel fled the area immediately afterward. The man, afraid to answer, managed to write down the suspect’s license plate number in its entirety.
“It looks like this is a road rage incident,” said Sgt. Kurt Svardal.
While the incident does not appear to be gang-related, Anti-Crime Team investigators took over the case since a gun had been brandished during the altercation.
Rosel was not known to police before Friday, Svardal said. He did not have any record of probation or parole.
After receiving an arrest warrant for Rosel and a search warrant for his Hollister home, ACT investigators arrested him on the 1600 block of Brighton Drive without incident and seized a gun at the residence.
“The gun is possibly a replica type gun,” Svardal said. “When it comes to this type of crime, it doesn’t matter whether the gun is real or not. The victim believed it was real.”
The man positively identified both Rosel and the weapon Friday night, police said.
Rosel was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, and brandishing a gun at motorist.
